Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation donates $50,000 to help Nassau BOCES students and families in need
Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation (NBEF) is going beyond their stated mission to offer direct help to Nassau BOCES students in need. The Foundation will distribute $50,000 in grants (up to $300 per student) to students in Special Education schools as well as the agency’s Regional Schools and Instructional Programs.
Nassau BOCES principals report that some students can’t participate in online classes because they don’t have a computer. Some students face dire housing situations or are struggling for food. Working with school principals, the funds will be used for educational tools, such as computers and hot spots or for basic needs. One Nassau BOCES principal, in tears, has called the plan "simply amazing."
“This donation will have an important impact right now on the quality of life and well-being of a Nassau BOCES student,” said NBEF Founder and Chairperson Dr. John Gangemi. “These are challenging times and the foundation is trying to adapt to new realities facing Nassau BOCES and its students.”
The NBEF has supported 44 projects totaling approximately $75,000 in the current year alone.
